What is your take on the Mayor and Video Boards for the Stadium?

This is a controversial post, at a time, when I am not looking to be confrontational, but still would like to learn more about what people in our community value as being important. The Mayor of Jacksonville would like to use tax revenue collected from hotels for each room they rent out to help fund new video scoreboards at the football stadium.

Some of this money is already used to perform maintenance at the football stadium, but also at the arena, the baseball park and other city owned buildings. By shifting more money to the football stadium, will there be enough money available for maintenance in other places?

Do we as a community need new video boards, hot tubs and fireworks in a facility that is used 15 times per year? Is 43 million dollars or roughly 4.5% of the city budget a good expense at a time when the money could be used for so many more purposes? (Insert roads, bridges-eek, libraries, maintenance of way).

What is your thought on this matter? Here is a link to the story at the Florida Times-Union.
